There are currently four developers building the foundations of Plasdŵr, creating distinct areas of individual character across three of its five neighbourhoods. But who are they?
Redrow
Redrow is the lead developer at Plasdŵr. It’s responsible for the development’s masterplan and is integral to building homes as well as facilities throughout the development at every stage.
Redrow currently has three developments underway. Its first, Parc Plymouth in Maesllech, is near completion, and was the first place at Plasdŵr where families were able to move into their new homes – the very beginning of the Plasdŵr community. Cwrt Sant Ioan, in Groewen, and Cae St Fagans in the Pendown neighbourhood are also well underway, with residents already making memories in their new homes.
Redrow aims to create a better way for people to live. Its ambition is to create thriving communities by building responsibly and valuing people. Redrow’s developments are designed in line with its eight placemaking principles, which have also informed the masterplan of Plasdŵr.
Known as a five-star builder by the Home Builders Federation, Redrow also achieved the Global Good Company of the Year Silver award in 2020, in recognition of its social impact. It also launched its ‘Nature for People’ biodiversity strategy, making it a great fit to lead the progression of the garden city.
Redrow will continue to build at Plasdŵr as it grows over the next 20+ years and will build homes in every phase of the development.
Bellway
Established in 1946 as a small family business, Bellway has grown over the past 75 years to become a reputable housebuilder in the UK. Bellway is committed to delivering high-quality homes. The now national developer has been awarded five-star builder status in the national Home Builders Federation awards for five consecutive years – most recently in 2021, when over 90% of their customers said they would recommend Bellway to a friend.
Bellway was the first to join lead developer, Redrow, to build at Plasdŵr. Its Rhiwlas development will eventually comprise 120 two-, three- and four-bedroom homes and is well underway in the Maesllech neighbourhood.
Lewis Homes
Local south Wales developer, Lewis Homes, is currently building the two, three and four-bedroom homes at Dôl Werdd, near Llantrisant Road, in the Groeswen neighbourhood.
A family-run enterprise, Lewis Homes builds larger than average homes with all properties built with a personal touch. Pre-sales launched at Dôl Werdd in March 2021 with the marketing suite open in June, and the first occupations expected to take place during the summer.
Taylor Wimpey
In May 2021, housebuilder Taylor Wimpey’s contract exchange marked the sixth development in the garden city, which will eventually build more than 1,100 homes across the Pendown, Groeswen and Maesllech neighbourhoods.
Taylor Wimpey’s ambition is to build greener, healthier homes and to create unique neighbourhoods with their own character and identity. Homes are designed to be energy and resource efficient, with the aim of reducing environmental impact, making Taylor Wimpey a natural fit to build at Cardiff’s ‘garden city of the 21st century’.
Redrow, Bellway and Lewis Homes are all taking viewings for its developments. More information can be found through following the above links or through the living page of our website.
As the development progresses over the next 20+ years, we’re looking forward to welcoming even more developers on board to build houses of all types and tenures across Plasdŵr’s five neighbourhoods.
