WALKING, CYCLING AND PUBLIC TRANSPORT

A new, sustainable transport corridor through the site has been designed to accommodate pedestrians, cyclists and public transport, including buses and a potential tram-train.

Walking and cycling for short trips within Plasdŵr will be supported by pedestrian and cycle routes planned across the site to connect the four centres, schools, residential areas and open spaces and recreational areas. These will then connect with other existing routes bordering Plasdŵr so that commuters and leisure cyclists can continue their journeys beyond.

Public transport will be promoted from the outset of the development, with the phased introduction of:

  • New/extended bus services connecting Plasdŵr with existing neighbouring communities, local railway stations, and to provide express connections to Cardiff city centre
  • Integration of bus priority measures throughout the site providing direct bus services
  • Improvements to supporting infrastructure, including waiting facilities at bus stops

Four bus gates are proposed at strategic locations, to provide buses with priority throughout Plasdŵr and reduce public transport journey times.
